Love, Soup & the Way He Carries You To Bed

Last week I told you about this post and how I didn't get around to posting it... I reviewed it and realized I definitely could not allow it to become a part of posts I haven't published. About love, soup, and life...

I love eating soup because you start out with patience for it to become cool enough. Then when the energy of the universe blesses you with the ability to consume it without burning your mouth you pick up your spoon and scoop the chunky parts. There may be parts you don't really care for and some parts you really prefer and wish the whole soup was made out of it. You careful ration between the two until all that is left is glorious broth-- your reward. The perfect blend of all the energy the pot of soup began with swims around at the bottom of your bowl. This is your treasure, your enjoyment, the very fruit of your soulmate's labor... And it is wonderful. Just like him.
If you've read posts from the past two months you know that I've been having a hard time with the truths of life and the world. I've been both misfortunate and fortunate to have such a trouble as I have found myself appreciating each moment and holding on to every breath, every instance of love. It's all around us and there is so much hope amongst the tragedies of the world. So much hope within all of us, so many dreams and wishes. Amongst the heart aches and worries is birthed love. Amongst both tears and joy is love.
I have opened my eyes and found that you can never quite open them wide enough to take in all the beauty around us. But that is our curse-- the curse of humanity-- to never get enough. So we must accept the love we have and savor it; accept the beauty of the world and appreciate each moment we have.
The other night Alex and I were watching the lovely indie film Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. It was just about over when I fell asleep. I had already seen it so it was difficult to fight slumber. I was awakened my arms around me, carrying me to the bedroom. All I remember before falling back asleep was "hold on, I got you." In the arms of my love, I trust. In the arms of my love I have felt the world spin as we were still together.
There is a story of how humans began with four legs, four arms, and two heads. They were powerful and contemplated taking over the heavens. To prevent them from doing so, Zeus split them in half, and thus we forever search to make ourselves whole again.
What happens when you finally find your other half? Well that's the beauty: anything. You find them and then you see the whole reason for all of this, the reason for life-- to experience this feeling of love, for it to forever morph and grow. You see the stars when you find them, then you can see the world together. How long did our souls search for one another? How long was it before the two energies of being saw which direction to turn to find their match? That's another beautiful thing, time is constructed for the physical but, for love, souls would search for an eternity yet find that no matter when they finally connect, the aspect that matters is that they do.

Energy

The energy we use, the energy we create, the energy we release during practice is not for ourselves.
We use, create, and let go of things for others-- to be compassionate.
We welcome positive energy within us when we're on the mat
and release the negative, breathing in the balance that permits harmony.
The harmony of inhale and exhale that makes life not only possible, but magical.

Footprints

When I look at footprints in the sand, I wonder who that person is, where they are going, what their hopes and dreams are; I wonder if they wonder the same thing when looking to the sand. Do they think of what others will think when we look at the sand? Are we all wondering together across the space and time of that ever changing patch of sand?
These are but a few thoughts tha cross my mind at the beach-- the evanevence of each grain of life. Each little piece of sand as a reminder that life exists only with change. The ocean understand just as the ground beneath our feet.
Do thoughts even matter until we give them a measure of importance? I know for sure that each breathe and each intention echoes throughout reality-- whether I be black or white, human or any other animal in the world.

Rainy in the Sunshine State

I like to think being able to run across a parking lot, in the rain, while wearing clothes for an interview, and still being able to giggle because you're stepping in puddles and getting all wet as a sign of a full body of happy, positive energy.
It might be a rainy Wednesday here in the Treasure Coast but it's all a part of nature. If you can't giggle in the rain, I think you may need to adjust your observation. How does rain not feel silly when you're all dressed up for an interview?
Put on your goloshes and pull out your umbrellas. Sunshine is wonderful but balance is key.
If you really need a giggle and the tears of a cloud aren't enough, here's a cute photograph of a doggie underwater. Photo was not taken by me-- found it in a book on my way to the potty at Barnes & Noble.

Back to Nature

Morning yoga truly transforms when you practice outdoors.
The warmth of the sun allows you to stretch farther and deeper, opening you up to new poses; the fresh air permits happy healthy breathes; the sounds of nature help you connect-- to root yourself back to the world as it is without humans.
Just like allowing your leg hair to grow back for a few days before shaving again, yoga outside allows for smooth, refreshing energy. It doesn't have to be done all the time, but when it is, you feel anew and confident.

Go outside and get some fresh air. Reconnect with the earth. Recognize the peace among the chaos of everyday America waiting to be realized.

Namaste.

Yoga Transcends

As my Sunday Power Yoga class approached its end, my instructor brought up how yoga isn't a goal-oriented practice, it's about proper form. At the time I was in my state of post-yoga peace so I definitely agreed.
A few days later, what she had said came up in my thoughts again and I quickly analyzed the different ways I have looked at yoga.
When we make yoga a goal-oriented practice, we lose something-- not in the attempts to reach that goal, but during the success of reaching it. The 'now what?' feeling-- the forever presence of desire and dissatisfaction. No matter what goal we make we can achieve it but if it is made a desire, then we will always be left wanting something more.
If we give in--surrender-- to the universe through our practice, we accept that which we cannot control and embrace what we can: discipline. We can discipline our minds and bodies and release the negative energies so many of us harbor deep within. When we release them, we open ourselves to the simplicity of happiness.
We can obtain this happiness within little other than our bodies and minds through practice.
We may begin doing it for fitness, health, or to show that we can, but what comes with it you cannot ignore. Releasing the negative energies we harbor within ourselves, opens space within ourselves. With this space, we can invite peace and relaxation.

Yoga can be used for fitness or health. I've probably mentioned before but I started yoga because of my asthma. I wanted freedom. The second time I got into it was for fitness. I wanted to feel strong. I believe I have succeeded, for the most part, with both but I had not idea that I could get something even better.
There is a feeling, an energy that radiates through you, when you practice and it lingers in your life for as long as you practice and apply mindfulness to your thoughts and actions. This energy is unlike anything else and, although I could try to explain and describe it, it would not be the same. It's something that must be experienced. You will know when you feel it.
